Complex topics are explained in an accessible way. Afterwards, there’s time for questions and comments from the audience. Food for the body and mind, every first Tuesday of the month!
Intersectionality: on queerness and migration
Let’s talk about intersectionality, queerness, and migration, leading up to pride on the 16th of May. Rather than starting from a single narrative, we explore how queer identities and migration experiences intersect with, and are shaped by, context, power, and access to space.
In a broader European context, where migration policies are becoming more restrictive and rights are increasingly under pressure, important questions need to be raised: Who is given space? Under what conditions? And which identities are recognized? What does visibility mean in contexts that can also exclude?
By bringing together plural voices during a panel conversation, this session invites participants to reflect on the complexity of queerness beyond a universal perspective and to engage in an open and critical conversation.
About the speakers
Belgian-Mexican-Colombian zinneke Majo is a freelance performer and educator. Their performances place the body and its expressiveness front and center. With a love for variety and challenge, their work spans cabaret, circus, dance, physical theatre, burlesque, and nightlife, for young and adult audiences. They teach at Brussels Arts and Pole studio, coach creative projects at Cirklabo (Leuven), and are guest teaching artistic support for Personal Projects and Practice-Based Research in the Circus and Performance bachelor (Fontys Academy of the Arts, Tilburg).
Sanele Mwelase, originally from South Africa, studied lyrical singing at the University of Cape Town. The artist has won several international singing competitions , including International Neue Stimmen (semi-finalist, 2022) and the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition (2023). They made their debut at La Monnaie (2025) in the revival of ‘Ali’ and was awarded the Opera Europa Eva Kleinitz Scholarship. Sanele studies at the Erasmushogeschool Brussel, School of Arts Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and is part of the MM Academy at La Monnaie.
Palestinian community builder, space generator, and drag-activist Sherine Falasteen focuses their work on creating spaces where culture, identity, and community can be expressed openly and with care. They are passionate about bringing people together and amplifying underrepresented voices. They are honored to speak on stage, sharing reflections on the intersections of culture, queerness, and belonging; lived experiences that deserve visibility, dignity, and acknowledgement.
Fran C. Bracho (moderator) is a Belgo-Venezuelan art historian and socio-cultural worker who is active within various diaspora networks in Brussels, Flanders and Europe. She specializes in intersectional methodology and the history of ‘otherness’ — themes that form the core of her work and reflections.

Intersectionaliteit: over queerness en migratie
Deze sessie focust op intersectionaliteit, queer-zijn en migratie, in de aanloop naar de Pride op 16 mei. In plaats van te vertrekken vanuit één enkel narratief, verkennen we hoe queer identiteiten en migratie-ervaringen elkaar kruisen en gevormd worden door context, machtsverhoudingen en toegang tot ruimte.
In een bredere Europese context, waarin migratiebeleid steeds restrictiever wordt en rechten steeds meer onder druk staan, moeten belangrijke vragen worden gesteld: Wie krijgt ruimte? Onder welke voorwaarden? En welke identiteiten worden erkend? Wat betekent zichtbaarheid in contexten die ook kunnen uitsluiten?
Door diverse stemmen samen te brengen in een panelgesprek, nodigt deze activiteit deelnemers uit om na te denken over de complexiteit van queer-zijn voorbij een universeel perspectief, en om deel te nemen aan een open en kritische dialoog.
Over de sprekers
Belgisch-Mexicaans-Colombiaanse zinneke Majo is freelance performer en docent. Hun optredens plaatsen het lichaam en expressiviteit centraal. Met een voorliefde voor afwisseling en uitdaging, omvat hun werk cabaret, circus, dans, fysiek theater en burlesque voor jong en volwassen publiek. Majo is docent bij Brussels Arts and Pole Studio, coacht creatieve projecten bij Cirklabo (Leuven) en is gastdocent artistieke ondersteuning voor Persoonlijke Projecten en Praktijkgericht Onderzoek in de bachelor Circus en Performance (Fontys Academie voor de Kunsten, Tilburg).

Die voelt zich vereerd om het podium te mogen betreden en om gedachten te delen over raakvlakken tussen cultuur, queer-zijn en erbij horen; levenservaringen die zichtbaarheid, waardigheid en erkenning verdienen.
