From Bandung to Gaza: with Vijay Prashad, Gie Goris & Koenraad Bogaert
70 years after the Bandung Conference: a meeting (in English) about struggle, solidarity and decolonisation.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the historic Bandung Conference, which aimed to offer an alternative to colonialism, imperialism, and war.
The LPBoonkring collaborated with the universities of Antwerp, Hasselt, Ghent, Leuven, and Brussels to invite Vijay Prashad. Vijay Prashad is a leading author and the director of the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research. He is known for his sharp analysis of imperialism and his advocacy for solidarity with oppressed peoples.
From December 1 to 5, he will engage in discussions with students, researchers, and faculty about decolonial thought and student occupations related to the genocide in Palestine.
On Friday, December 5, we will conclude the week with a public debate (conducted in English). Gie Goris, former editor-in-chief of MO*, will open the evening and moderate the conversation with Vijay Prashad on struggle and solidarity, Bandung, and Gaza. Elena Aoun, professor at UCL, and Koenraad Bogaert, professor at UGent, will respond. Finally, student delegations will share their experiences meeting Vijay Prashad.

Dit jaar is het 70 jaar geleden dat de historische Bandungconferentie plaatsvond om een alternatief te bieden tegen kolonialisme, imperialisme en oorlog.
De LPBoonkring werkte samen met de universiteiten van Antwerpen, Hasselt, Gent, Leuven en Brussel om Vijay Prashad uit te nodigen. Vijay Prashad is een toonaangevend auteur en directeur van het Tricontinental Institute for Social Research.Hij staat bekend om zijn scherpe analyse van het imperialisme en zijn pleidooien voor solidariteit met onderdrukte volkeren.
Van 1 tot en met 5 december zal hij in gesprek gaan met studenten, onderzoekers en docenten over het dekoloniale denken en over de studentenbezettingen rond de genocide in Palestina.
Op vrijdag 5 december sluiten we deze week af met een debat voor een ruim publiek (voertaal is Engels). Gie Goris, ex-hoofdredacteur MO* leidt de avond in en modereert het gesprek met Vijay Prashad over strijd en solidariteit, Bandung en Gaza. Elena Aoun, prof aan de UCL en Koenraad Bogaert, prof aan de UGent, reageren. Tenslotte zullen studentendelegaties getuigen over hun ontmoetingen met Vijay Prashad.

Cette année marque le 70e anniversaire de la conférence historique
de Bandung, qui visait à proposer une alternative au colonialisme, à l’impérialisme et à la guerre.
Le LPBoonkring a collaboré avec les universités d’Anvers, Hasselt, Gand, Louvain et Bruxelles pour inviter Vijay Prashad. VIJAY PRASHAD est un auteur de renom et directeur du Tricontinental Institute for Social Research. Il est connu pour ses analyses pointues de l’impérialisme et ses plaidoyers en faveur de la solidarité avec les peuples opprimés.
Du 1er au 5 décembre, il s’entretiendra avec des étudiants, des chercheurs et des enseignants sur la pensée décoloniale et les occupations étudiantes autour du génocide en Palestine.
Le vendredi 5 décembre, nous clôturerons cette semaine par un débat ouvert à un large public (en anglais). Gie Goris, ancien rédacteur en chef de MO*, introduira la soirée et animera la discussion avec Vijay Prashad sur la lutte et la solidarité, Bandung et Gaza. Elena Aoun, professeure à l’UCL, et Koenraad Bogaert, professeur à l’UGent, réagiront. Des délégations d’étudiants témoigneront de leurs rencontres avec Vijay Prashad
